Developing Career-Focused Lesson Plans
To develop relevance and meaning for students, teachers can strengthen instructional lessons through the integration of core academics with career and technical education skills to impact the learning in their own classroom instruction. Understanding the value of integrating core content skills and career technical skills into their daily lesson planning aligned to the Common Career Technical Core (CCTC) standards (AdvanceCTE).

The Curriculum Workbench professional development course, provided by the CTUF Quest Center, provides currently practicing teachers in all subject areas, particularly CTE and STEM content areas, with a deep understanding of curriculum design driven by developing career-aligned interdisciplinary learning experiences that prepare them for relevant on-the-job activities. This course will allow educators to collaborate and learn around lesson planning to create an interdisciplinary, constructivist, experiential-based lesson plan that engages students to further develop their technical skills through collaborative activities that reinforce the skills for academic and career success. This course is aligned to the CPS Framework for Teaching Components 1a, 1c, 1d, 3c, and 4d.
Course Objectives for the Curriculum Workbench Professional Development: Teachers will design a lesson plan driven by the application of trade industry skills aligned to the ISBE College and Career Pathways, adapt and integrate career and technical education curriculum with other subject areas and grade levels, and learn to integrate academic content standards with the Common Career Technical Core (CCTC) standards into a career-focused curriculum design.
