The Art of Questioning and Discussion
This hybrid (face-to-face and online) offering will familiarize teachers of all grade levels and subjects with “Best Practice” questioning and discussion techniques and their benefits. Participants will analyze their current practice in terms of low-level and high-level questioning strategies. Attendees will learn discussion techniques that advance their students’ explanation of their thinking. Teachers will view and participate in Fish Bowls, Four Corners, and Socratic Seminars and learn how to use these strategies and activities in their classrooms. They will learn ways to encourage student participation in class discussions and how to teach their students to evaluate others’ points of view. This offering addresses the CPS Framework for Teaching Components: 1a, 3b, and 4d.

Hybrid courses require participants to attend face-to-face sessions at the designated location as well as participate in the online activities, assignments, and discussions in order to receive credit. Each participant will receive a registration request for Canvas, our online course management system, at the email address they provided at registration prior the start date of the professional development offering.
The course instructor will provide additional information about the process, and requirements at the first face-to-face meeting and assist you in logging into your Canvas account for the first time.
In order to receive credit, participants must attend each entire session. Please note that while you are welcome to stay, late arrivals and early departures cannot receive ISBE PD Hours.
The CTUF Quest Center reserves the right to cancel a course/workshop due to low enrollment. Refunds for participant cancellation will be issued up to one day before the course/workshop begins.
