Michael P. Moriarty, NBCT
Michael Moriarty, Career Pathways Coordinator, supports Career and Technical Education (CTE) initiatives for teacher professional development and school programming through project design, curricular and implementation support, and fundraising. The Instructors Apprenticeship professional development program is enhancing educators’ technical, cultural and pedagogical competencies.
Michael taught in Chicago Public Schools for 7 years teaching high school mathematics at Bowen and Morgan Park High Schools. During this time, he was awarded by the Southside Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year Award in 2009, earned National Board Teacher Certification, represented the state in mathematics standards implementation for the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and has published lessons used by over 100,000 teachers. Michael received his Bachelor’s Degree from Illinois State University in Secondary Mathematics Education, and a Master’s Degree from Roosevelt University in Teacher Leadership. For the past seven years, Michael has been a professional development facilitator for the Quest Center and has managed many career and technical education initiatives. Other than mathematics, Michael’s pedagogical specialties are diverse including STEM Education, Career and Technical Education, educational neuroscience, social-emotional learning, and trauma-sensitive education.
Away from the Quest Center, Michael spends his time with his wife and three children cooking and gardening together. He is also a musician and founded a non-profit charity supporting families experiencing pediatric cancer.
