Michael P. Moriarty, NBCT
Michael P. Moriarty, NBCT, is the Career Pathways Coordinator for the Chicago Teachers Union Foundation, where he supports the Quest Center for Professional Learning and Teacher Leadership and Career and Technical Education (CTE) initiatives for teacher professional development and CTE school programming through project design, curricular and implementation support, grant-making, and fundraising.
Michael is a high school mathematics educator who taught in Chicago Public Schools for 7 years at Bowen and Morgan Park high schools. During this time, he was awarded the Southside Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year Award, earned National Board Teacher Certification (and was newly renewed), represented the state in mathematics standards implementation for the Illinois Federation of Teachers, and has published lessons used by over 250,000+ teachers. Michael earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Illinois State University in Secondary Mathematics Education and a Master’s Degree from Roosevelt University in Teacher Leadership. For the past nine years, Michael serves CTU members in the areas of professional development, communications, and career pathways. Michael’s professional development focuses on supporting teachers in learning how to meet the needs of the whole child through restorative and trauma-informed pedagogy. Michael’s technical expertise is also utilized as the ctuf.org website and PD catalog systems administrator.
Michael’s passion for making mathematics relevant is exhibited by expanding career and technical education programming for all students in Chicago Public Schools to be able to readily apply their skills to connect to good-paying jobs through the trades and technical industry. In the past six years, CTUF Career Pathways has developed programming in CTE such as the Instructors Apprenticeship for Advanced Manufacturing, solar energy pre-apprenticeship IBEW 134 courses at Juarez and Prosser high schools, and the HIRE360 tutoring program. Currently, Michael coordinates the Climate Justice Education Project impacting environmental justice education for teachers and their students.
