Introduction to Trauma-Informed Pedagogy
This workshop provides an introduction to trauma-informed pedagogy for K-12 grade teachers and PSRPs. In this workshop, we discuss identifying the psychological and behavioral symptoms of complex childhood trauma and the role of the teacher after a traumatic event. Participants will learn how to begin to confront the wide-ranging, long-term impact of traumatic exposure that often results in grief and depression, adversely affecting their students’ learning and social/emotional well-being. By creating a safe and supportive environment in which students feel nurtured, not only to learn but also to express their feelings, teachers will be able to address their students’ holistic learning needs. This offering is aligned with the CPS Framework for Teaching Components 1b, 2a, 2d, 3b, 3c, 4d, and 4e.
