Welcome Back from the Chicago Teachers Union Foundation
Welcome Back Teachers, PSRPs, clinicians, librarians, social workers, students, and their families to the 2019-2020 school year!
Here are some messages from our Directors:
Carmen Curet, Executive Director
“I remember as a child, the anticipation of going back to school in September and not being able to fall asleep the night before school starts as quick as other nights. I was excited about wearing new clothes and reuniting with old friends. Nervous about my new teacher and wondering if he/she will make us do a lot of homework or not.
Although it is years since my first day of school, I still feel the excitement for the children of Chicago. I am excited about the opportunities for learning and exploring their potential in the classroom. I am thrilled about the fashion shows (even if only to show off the new uniform) that will take place in many schoolyards throughout the city.
I am also aware of the apprehension and trepidation of starting a new year. Fear of the unknown and the pressure to make the grades, and equally important will I make friends.
I know educators will greet children with big smiles and with high expectations for what the new year may bring. My expectations for our children is that they have a happy, productive, safe year. In short, receive the education that they deserve.”
Walter Taylor, NBCT, Director of Professional Development
“Colleagues, what you do on a daily basis (year after year) is really remarkable. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank every one of you for your labor of love. I also wanted to welcome you back to what I know will be a stellar school year for you, the students and caregivers you work with and serve. I am truly humbled by your dedication to the noblest of all the professions: TEACHING! I welcome you back and I thank you for your service.”
Lynn Cherkasky-Davis, Director of Teacher Leadership
